Happy Thursday, WilCo Seniors!

As we get ready for the holiday weekend, it is a wonderful time to think about the people who keep our community running smoothly and safely every single day. This week we are spotlighting the incredible, quiet dedication of the Meals on Wheels program through OWBC, which serves hundreds of local seniors right here in our neighborhoods.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to volunteer or give back as the summer months approach, they are always a beautiful organization to keep in mind. This Week: Meals on Wheels from Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties

Some of the most important work in a county is the work that happens quietly, every weekday, without needing much attention. Meals on Wheels through Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties fits that description. The program provides hot noontime meals to local seniors in need Monday through Friday, both through home delivery and congregate meal settings for seniors who can still get out and about.

It is especially worth knowing because the need keeps growing. OWBC’s 2024 impact report says its senior nutrition services served more than 1,600 clients in 2024, which gives you a pretty good sense of how many local households quietly rely on it.

If you are looking for a place to give, volunteer, or remember when a senior neighbor needs support, this is a good one.

This Week: PB Café, Leander

2080 North US Highway 183, #220, Leander

If you want a place that feels easy from the minute you walk in, PB Café in Leander has a nice way about it. The café serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner made from scratch, and it leans hard into the idea that this should feel like a comfortable neighborhood spot, not a place trying too hard to impress you.

The May specials alone make a decent case for the drive. They include tres leches French toast, chilaquiles, chorizo breakfast tacos, and a birria quesadilla, and the regular menu covers everything from breakfast through dinner.

It is also family-owned, open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and set up for lingering a bit if that’s the mood.

Got a favorite spot you think more people should know about?

Reply and tell us the name, your go-to order, and why you love it.

Leander is taking Memorial Day pretty well

Leander city offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, but there is a nice trade-off: Robin Bledsoe Park’s swimming pool and splash pad will be open over Memorial Day weekend, and garbage and recycling collections will still run as usual. That is the kind of holiday logistics I like, closed counters, open water.

Leander got some nice national bragging rights this week

U.S. News & World Report named Leander one of its 2026–2027 Best Places to Live, ranking it No. 8 in the country and No. 2 in Texas. Rankings are rankings, of course, but it is still a pleasant little nod for one of the county’s fastest-growing cities.

New voter cards are out, but you do not need one in your hand to vote

Williamson County says it mailed the new 2026–2027 voter registration certificates on May 6. It is worth checking your information and keeping the card for your records, but the useful reminder is this: you still only need your photo ID to vote.
