🤝 Come for the activities, stay for the community

A good senior center offers something a schedule alone cannot: a familiar place to walk into and know you’ll be welcomed, included, and missed when you’re not there. The Leander Senior Activity Center is becoming that place for the city’s 55+ community.

Located at 709 Municipal Drive, the center gives older adults a dedicated place to connect, stay active, and enjoy social, recreational, and wellness programs. The building includes a fitness room, game room, covered patio, courtyard, game tables, internet access, and plenty of space to gather.

This week’s National Gorgeous Grandma Day event is a great example of what brings the center to life. It’s playful, local, and centered on celebrating the people who use the space.

If you live in Leander or nearby and have been meaning to check it out, this is a great time to stop by and see what’s happening.

🍗 Southern favorites on the Square

119 W. 7th Street, Georgetown, TX

Goodfolks is an easy pick when you want Southern comfort food right on the Georgetown Square. The menu mixes familiar favorites with a little Cajun influence, including fried chicken, chicken and waffles, shrimp and sausage étouffée, homemade biscuits, hearty sandwiches and scratch-made desserts.

It works just as well for a casual lunch as it does for dinner and cocktails, especially when you are already downtown for shopping, a show or a walk around the Square. The food is generous, the setting feels lively and there are enough options to keep everyone at the table happy.

Got a favorite spot you think more people should know about?

Reply and tell us the name, your go-to order, and why you love it!

🎉 RE|CREATE opens in Cedar Park

Cedar Park’s old library has a whole new life. RE|CREATE is now open as a community center for every age, with indoor play space, classrooms, a theater area and programs for kids, teens, adults and seniors.

It’s a fresh place to try something new, meet up with neighbors or keep the kids busy, all inside a building many Cedar Park families already know well.

Leander Senior Center adds hours

Beginning August 7, the Leander Senior Activity Center will extend its weekday hours until 8 p.m. and open on weekends for the first time. The new schedule will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The city will celebrate with an open house on Friday, August 7, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., giving neighbors a chance to tour the center and learn about its programs.

🥬 Watch produce safety updates

Williamson County and Cities Health District recently shared a reminder about Cyclospora and fresh produce. It’s a good reason to wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly, stay aware of local health updates and take extra care with produce served raw during the summer.
