🎖️A place where veterans can find answers and each other

Military service may end, but questions about benefits, healthcare, employment and family support can continue for years. Heroes Resource Center gives local veterans, service members and their families a welcoming place to begin looking for answers.
The Cedar Park nonprofit provides its services free of charge. Veterans can receive help with claims and benefits, speak with a Vet Center counselor, use an on-site computer or connect with resources for employment, legal questions, Medicare, health insurance and financial concerns.
The center is also a place to spend time with people who understand military life. Peer support gatherings with coffee and donuts are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and free family dinners are offered on the first Friday of each month with advance registration.
A veteran does not need to know exactly which program to request before calling. The staff can listen, help identify the need and point the family toward an appropriate service or community partner.

🔥 Smoke, history and a very good reason to visit Taylor

206 W. Second Street, Taylor
Walking into Louie Mueller Barbecue feels like stepping into a piece of Texas history. Smoke has darkened the brick walls of the old school gymnasium where the Mueller family has been serving barbecue since 1949.
Brisket is the natural place to begin. Add a link of the original beef sausage, or bring a healthy appetite and order one of the enormous pepper-crusted beef ribs. The pinto beans, German-style potato salad and coleslaw make dependable companions.
Save room for peach cobbler if it’s available. It is a fitting finish to a meal built around post oak smoke, simple seasoning and generations of practice.
Louie Mueller Barbecue received a James Beard Foundation America’s Classics award and is now led by third-generation owner and pitmaster Wayne Mueller.

🦟 Take Extra Care Around Mosquitoes
Williamson County has confirmed its first human case of West Nile virus this year in a resident in their 80s. Because older adults are more likely to develop serious symptoms, it’s especially important to protect yourself from mosquito bites.
Use insect repellent outdoors, wear long sleeves and pants when practical, and regularly empty standing water from flowerpots, buckets, birdbaths and other containers around your home.
🏛️ What’s Closed in Georgetown on Labor Day
Georgetown city offices, the public library and several city facilities will be closed Monday, September 7. GoGeo paratransit service will not operate that day.
The Recreation Center will be closed through September 7 for annual maintenance, while its indoor pool is expected to remain closed until early October. Garbage and recycling will run normally, but carts should be at the curb by 7 a.m.

🚦 Legacy Ranch Drive Improvements Are Complete
Williamson County has completed improvements along 0.6 miles of Legacy Ranch Drive in Liberty Hill. The project added two traffic signals, new right-turn lanes and fresh pavement between Seward Junction North Loop and the CR 258 extension.
The upgrades are designed to make the route safer and improve access near Legacy Ranch High School.
