I hope your week is going well. There's something special about this time of year, isn't there? For my family, it's when we start wrapping up our summer adventures and settling back into our routines. I can't help but smile when I see all the fall decorations popping up in the stores. It's also heartwarming to see how our community keeps growing and how people find new ways to connect. WilCo offers so many chances to step out, try something different, make new friends, or just spend some time doing what you love.
Maybe that’s one of the best things about living here - there’s always a next chapter, a new place to explore, and event to enjoy, or a familiar face to run into along the way. I hope this week’s newsletter gives you a few ideas for getting out and enjoying your community. 🐴 A Georgetown place where horses help people grow
At Ride On Center for Kids, better known as ROCK, horses help children, adults and veterans build strength, confidence and greater independence.
The Georgetown nonprofit has served Central Texas since 1998. Its participants range from age 2 to over 90, and its programs include physical and speech therapy, therapeutic horsemanship, equine-assisted learning and ROCK On Veterans.
The setting is part of what makes the experience special. ROCK sits on more than 60 acres, giving participants room to work with trained staff, volunteers and a carefully selected herd of equine partners.
Volunteers make up most of ROCK’s workforce. Opportunities include serving as a horse handler, sidewalker or arena assistant, along with helping at events, welcoming visitors and caring for the grounds. Horse experience is useful for some roles but is not required for every job because training is provided.
If you have never visited, ROCK also offers scheduled tours for neighbors who would like to see the work firsthand.

🍰 Brazilian Treats in a Charming Leander Cottage

Casa Costa Bake Shop brings the flavors of Brazil and Portugal to a remodeled 1930s home in Old Town Leander. The cozy rooms, welcoming porch and cases filled with colorful treats make it an inviting stop for breakfast or an afternoon sweet.

🏡 Check How Proposed Tax Rates Affect Your Home
Williamson County property owners can now review how proposed 2026 tax rates may affect their individual tax bills. The online database shows estimates from each city, school district and other local entity that taxes your property.
Search for your address to compare proposed rates, find upcoming public hearings and subscribe to email updates. The information will continue to be updated throughout August and September as local officials finalize their rates.
🩸 WilCo blood drives kick off today
We Are Blood and Williamson County EMS are launching WilCo Saves today, with blood drives across the county through September 8. The annual campaign helps strengthen the local blood supply around Labor Day, when donations typically dip.
Drives are scheduled in Liberty Hill, Hutto, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock and Taylor. Donors will receive an exclusive 2026 WilCo Saves T-shirt while supplies last.
🛍️ A New Hutto Gathering Place Takes Shape
Hutto has received the site plan for Cottonwood Marketplace, a planned shopping and dining development near U.S. 79 and County Road 132. The project is still in its early stages, with tenant announcements and a construction schedule expected later.
