Happy Thursday, WilCo Seniors!

It is finally starting to feel like that sweet spot of spring where the mornings are crisp enough for a walk but the afternoons are hinting at the heat to come. We have a packed calendar this week, ranging from tribute bands in Cedar Park to a quiet morning art stroll in Round Rock.

Whether you are looking for a high energy concert or a simple quiche and coffee at a family run cafe, there is a little something for everyone in the county right now. I hope you find a reason to get out and enjoy the sunshine today.

This Week: Senior Access

There are some organizations you do not fully appreciate until driving gets harder, the grocery run becomes a puzzle, or one more doctor’s appointment suddenly feels like too much. Senior Access works right in that space. The organization provides free transportation and support services for seniors, and its service area includes Round Rock, Pflugerville, and Hutto, along with nearby communities.

What I like about it is how practical it is. Senior Access helps older neighbors get to routine doctor appointments, long-term medical treatments, the pharmacy, grocery shopping, beauty and barber appointments, banks, church, activity centers, and support groups. That is the kind of support that helps people stay in their homes and keep living life on their own terms.

If you have time to give, they use volunteer drivers who provide door-to-door transportation in their own vehicles. If you know someone in east Williamson County who has started needing that kind of help, this is a good name to keep handy.

This Week: Papi’s Pies, Round Rock

10 Chisholm Trail Rd, Suite B, Round Rock

If your ideal lunch leans more cozy than flashy, Papi’s Pies has a pretty easy charm to it. It is family-run, has been around since 2012, and the menu pulls together pastries, savory quiches, tartines, salteñas, pies, and other house-made favorites in a way that feels a little different from the usual brunch stop.

The food is half the reason to go, and the other half is that it seems built for lingering. Their menu description talks about family recipes, local favorites, and European classics made in-house, which tracks with the kind of place where you can talk yourself into one savory thing and one sweet thing without much resistance. This is the week I’d go for a quiche, something pastry-adjacent, and a pie slice to take home.

A quick tax office heads-up for Round Rock

The Williamson County Tax Assessor-Collector and Veteran Services lobby in Round Rock remains closed through Friday, May 15, for HVAC repairs. The drive-thru is still open for limited services, and the county says the Georgetown, Cedar Park, and Taylor offices remain available for everything else.

Quarry Splash Pad opens May 23

A little ahead-of-time planning note for families and grandparents: the Quarry Splash Pad at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park opens Saturday, May 23. County officials say it will run Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and admission is $2 per person.

The Baca Center turns 20

Round Rock’s Allen R. Baca Center marked its 20th anniversary on May 1, and the city says it continues to serve adults 50 and older with programs built around activity, creativity, friendship, and healthy living. It’s a nice reminder that one of the county’s best senior resources has been doing steady work for a long time.
