🧡 A clearer path through Parkinson’s
A Parkinson’s diagnosis can bring questions about movement, independence, daily routines and what the future may hold. Georgetown Area Parkinson’s Support, better known as GAPS, helps local families find answers without facing the journey alone.
For 15 years, the nonprofit has supported people throughout Williamson County who are living with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Its programs are also open to family members and care partners who need guidance, encouragement and a community that understands.
Newly diagnosed neighbors can begin with a small support group that offers practical education and trusted resources. GAPS also connects participants with peer mentors who have traveled a similar road. Care partners have their own support group where they can speak honestly about the responsibilities and emotions that come with caregiving.
Wellness classes help participants work on strength, balance, confidence and social connection. Monthly gatherings and educational programs offer additional opportunities to make friends, ask questions and learn from experienced professionals.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, caring for someone you love or looking for a place to volunteer, GAPS can help you find a comfortable place to begin.

🥐 Small-batch baking and a relaxed Taylor lunch

Flake Bakery and Larder makes breads, pastries and lunch from scratch in small batches. It’s a lovely spot to slow down over a sandwich and something sweet.
For breakfast, try an egg and cheese sandwich on a homemade biscuit or bagel. At lunch, there’s chicken salad with dried cherries and almonds, or grilled cheese with a cup of soup. Savory turnovers include spinach and artichoke and mushroom with mascarpone.
The pastry selection changes, with muffins, scones, danishes and sweet turnovers among the options. If you have your heart set on a Saturday cinnamon roll or sticky pecan roll, check the ordering page ahead of time; those are listed for preorder. Add a coffee or tea and enjoy a little extra time in Taylor.

🗳️ Check Your Voter Registration Before October 5
The deadline to register for Williamson County’s November 3 election is Monday, October 5. This is also the deadline for registration changes to take effect for this election, so now’s a good time to confirm that your name and address are correct.
Early voting will run from October 19 through October 30. The county elections page also includes voter registration, ballot-by-mail and polling information.
🚧 Williams Drive is getting new turn restrictions
Construction is underway on Williams Drive between Serenada Drive and Lakeway Drive in Georgetown. The existing center turn lane is being removed as crews build a raised median, which means drivers will no longer be able to make left turns across the roadway in this section.
Businesses and neighborhoods will remain accessible, but some familiar routes and entrances may require a different approach. The full project includes new lighting, landscaping and traffic signal improvements and is expected to continue through late 2027.
🧪 Save Household Chemicals for the October Cleanup
Williamson County residents can safely dispose of many household hazardous materials from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 17, at the county’s Central Maintenance Facility in Georgetown.
Accepted items include automotive fluids, batteries, household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, varnish and up to five gallons of paint per vehicle. Volunteers will unload the materials, so residents should keep everything sealed, separated and in the back of the vehicle.
