This week, we are highlighting the Williamson County Master Gardeners.

If you have ever wondered why your petunias give up the ghost by July, these are the people you need to meet. They are a volunteer organization of highly trained residents who share their passion for gardening with the community. They don't just grow plants; they grow solutions for the unique challenges of Central Texas soil and heat.

They are the local experts who help us keep Williamson County green without wasting a drop of water.
You can find them at the Georgetown Community Center this Saturday during their annual plant sale, where they will be answering questions and helping neighbors pick out the right natives for their yards.

We are building a list of the best local spots based on your recommendations.
Reader Pick: Blue Corn Harvest

This has quickly become a local favorite for its "farm to table" feel and high quality comfort food. The blue corn muffins served at the start of the meal are legendary, and the outdoor patio is a perfect spot for a spring lunch. It is a great place to stop after the plant sale this Saturday.

AARP Tax-Aide: Free Help in Georgetown
As we head into the final weeks of tax season, remember that the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program offers free tax preparation for low to moderate income households, with a focus on those 50 and older. Local volunteers are IRS certified and available at several sites across Williamson County through April 15. Appointments fill up fast this time of year, so check the site locator to find the closest open spot.

Red Poppy Festival Volunteer Call
Georgetown’s biggest event of the year, the Red Poppy Festival, is happening late next month. They are currently looking for volunteers to help with everything from the artisan market to the hospitality tent. It is a fun way to get a "behind the scenes" look at the festival while serving the community.
