This Week: Lifelong Learners GTX, Georgetown

There’s something very Georgetown about a room full of people who could be doing anything else, but choose to keep learning. Lifelong Learners GTX gives adults in the Georgetown area a place to do just that, with informal in-person courses taught by people who know their subjects and enjoy sharing them.
The organization grew out of Senior University Georgetown, and the heart of it is still simple. Keep your mind active. Meet people who are also curious. Spend a few hours learning about history, science, books, travel, current events, or whatever the new course season brings.
What makes it worth noting this week is that summer is a good time to start watching the fall course schedule. If you have been meaning to add something to your calendar that is not an errand, appointment, or household task, this is a good place to look. The courses are built for adults who want substance without the pressure of grades, tests, or formal school.
If you like learning for its own sake, Lifelong Learners GTX is worth keeping close.

This Week: Texan Cafe & Pie Shop, Hutto

207 East Street, Hutto
Some places understand comfort food better than others. Texan Cafe & Pie Shop in Hutto is one of those old-school local spots where the meal feels familiar before it even reaches the table.
The menu leans home-style, with chicken fried steak, fried catfish, burgers, fried green tomatoes, and plenty of plates that belong with iced tea and a slower lunch. But the pie case is the real reason people keep talking about it. Chocolate silk, coconut cream, lemon meringue, German chocolate, blackberry cobbler, and the warm skillet-style pies all make this a dangerous place to say, “I’ll just have a bite.”
It is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and closed Sunday.

🚗 Taylor July Fourth Parking Changes
If you’re heading to Taylor’s Fourth of July celebration, plan for a few changes near Murphy Park. Veterans Drive through the park will be closed, and parking will be available in grassy areas near Lake Drive and Davis Street, on the south side of the park off 12th Street, and in the Memorial Field parking lot.
🎆 Cedar Sparktacular Details Are Posted
Cedar Sparktacular runs July 4 from 5 to 11 p.m. at Milburn Park, with fireworks scheduled for 9:30 p.m. The city also posted reminders on event rules, parking, maps, and what to leave at home before you head over.

🎆 Check WilCo Fireworks Rules
Before lighting anything for the Fourth, Williamson County is reminding residents to check the county fireworks map and local city rules first. Fireworks sales began June 24, but rules can change depending on where you live, especially inside city limits or near restricted areas.
