Happy Thursday, WilCo Seniors!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and for many of us, that means finding the perfect way to say thank you. Being a mom is a journey of constant growth and simple, everyday joys, and I feel so lucky to be raising my kids in such a supportive community.

This weekend is a chance to honor all the mother figures who make a lasting impact on our lives. From comedy nights in Leander to stargazing in Taylor, there are plenty of ways to celebrate that don't involve the usual stress. If you’re looking for a little inspiration, we’ve gathered some of the best local spots and events to help you plan.

This month, we’re spotlighting Suzy Turner, owner of Soulshine Rhythm Experience.

Through group drumming and rhythm-based fitness, Soulshine helps older adults build connection, improve balance and coordination, support memory, and boost overall well-being. For seniors who may feel isolated or disconnected, making music together offers a joyful way to move, engage, and connect.

Soulshine Rhythm Experience offers HealthRHYTHMS group drumming and rhythm-based fitness programs for:

Active adults 55+
Independent living seniors
Assisted living seniors
Memory care residents

Suzy’s classes have been creating quite the buzz lately, and for good reason. What often starts with a little hesitation: “I don’t know if I can do that” or “It’s been a while since I’ve tried something new,” quickly turns into confidence, laughter, and a whole lot of fun.

Through Soulshine Rhythm Experience, Suzy creates a welcoming space where seniors can move at their own pace, build strength, and rediscover the joy of movement. Her classes aren’t about perfection… they’re about showing up, giving it a try, and enjoying the process.

And the community keeps growing. Someone comes, has fun, and brings a friend. Before long, that friend is smiling too.

As Suzy says, “We laugh, we move, we loosen up a bit. Nobody’s taking themselves too seriously. It’s just good people, good energy, and a whole lot of groovin’.”

Join the fun at the Leander Senior Center:

Thinking about trying something new? This is your sign. Soulshine Rhythm Experience proves it’s never too late to move, connect, and let your soul shine.

This Week: The Caring Place

You know those places that have been part of the neighborhood so long you almost stop noticing they're there? The Caring Place is one of them. Since 1985, this Georgetown nonprofit has been quietly showing up for folks across town and northern Williamson County, helping with food, transportation, and other urgent everyday needs that can catch anyone off guard.

What stands out is how grounded the whole thing feels. It's community-based, community-supported, and community-serving, which is a lot of ground to cover when you think about how much Georgetown has grown. The Caring Place is worth knowing about whether you're looking for somewhere to donate, a place to volunteer your time, or just a name to keep in your back pocket for a neighbor who might need a hand.

This Week: Wildfire, Georgetown

812 S Austin Avenue, Georgetown

Mother’s Day on the Georgetown Square has an easy answer: Wildfire.

Family-owned and local since 1997, Wildfire has held down its spot on South Austin Avenue for nearly three decades. It’s an easy pick for a mixed-age table, with Sunday brunch plus the regular lunch and dinner menu.

The Square does the rest. Park, take a stroll, snap a few photos, and settle in for a meal that feels special without making the day complicated. Mom will be happy, and you won’t have had to overthink it.

Got a favorite spot you think more people should know about?

Reply and tell us the name, your go-to order, and why you love it.

Mother’s Day planning

Visit Georgetown is actively pushing a Mother’s Day roundup right now, and it’s genuinely useful if you are still deciding what Sunday should look like. It pulls together shopping and dining ideas in Georgetown, which makes it a good backup plan if the family group text is still undecided.

Williamson County’s senior services page

Williamson County maintains a senior services page that gathers local programs and support resources for older residents. It is the sort of page you may not need every week, but it is good to bookmark in case you ever do.

The Baca Center celebrates 20 years

Round Rock’s Allen R. Baca Center for Senior and Community Activities just celebrated 20 years, making this a good time to spotlight one of the city’s best resources for adults 50 and up.

From fitness and social activities to classes, creativity, and healthy living, the Baca Center gives local seniors plenty of ways to stay active, connected, and involved.
